Travel to Italy this summer with two professors from the English Department! Students are always changed significantly by the trip. They come back with a better understanding of what we mean when we refer to Western culture and they see the roots of the Englightenment and American democracy in Florence.
Last year students took a cooking class from Chef Carmelita from Bologna. They had a day's seminar with Professor Giorgio Mariani from the University of Rome and had lunch with Italian graduate students for discussions. Students toured the Coliseum and the Vatican in Rome. They stayed in apartments in Florence, studying the Italian Renaissance and seeing David, and works of Michelangelo, DaVinci, Raphael, and Botticelli. Students also visited Bologna to see the buildings Dante wrote about and learn about what's considered the best food in the world.
