Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Slippery Rock University Frederick Douglass Teaching Scholar in History 2014-2015 The State System of Higher Education (SSHE) for Pennsylvania is offering a half time teaching opportunity at Slippery Rock University to ABD or recent graduates of a PhD program in History, African American Studies, and Pan African Studies. (History Preferred)

Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Slippery Rock University Frederick Douglass Teaching Scholar in History 2014-2015 The State System of Higher Education (SSHE) for Pennsylvania is offering a half time teaching opportunity at Slippery Rock University to ABD or recent graduates of a PhD program in History, African American Studies, and Pan African Studies. (History Preferred) The Teaching Scholar will be expected to teach one survey course each semester in US History and one course each semester in African American or African history.

This program is designed to give young scholars teaching experience and to explore employment opportunities within a university setting. This is in keeping with the spirit of Douglass' life of public service and PASSHE’s mission to be a source of encouragement to African American, Native American, Hispanic American, and Asian American educators and students. Minimum requirements are: Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Applicants must be at least ABD. They must have an academic background in African-American or African history; and at least three favorable letters of recommendation from faculty or professionals in the student's field, including the student's advisor. Preferred: experience teaching or as teaching assistant. Scholars will be compensated as adjunct faculty, according to each university's collective bargaining agreement. Priority consideration will be given to completed applications postmarked by March 29, 2014.
