A Conversation with Featured Local Artist Bill Smith
Saturday, April 27, 6:00 p.m.
Russell Wright Alumni House and Conference Center

The Kaleidoscope Arts Festival is pleased to present a conversation with featured local artist Bill Smith: "Recently, my interest and attention have drifted toward the exploration and investigation of the imagination.  More and more I have been trying to locate and examine the imagination when it is not being manipulated or engaged.  The longer I can dwell in my boundlessly empty imagination the more things come into view and the art work that comes about feels more an authentic part of what I am.  I am interested in the cultural use of the imagination and how it reflects itself back through the individual.  I challenge myself not to buy the cultural imagination of the moment, the plastic imagination if the forever young, hip and cool, but rather to view the imagination as an organic growth organ with the potential to evolve life in a more peaceful and unified way.  I think by adjusting my perspective I have understanding that to stop winning is success, irony never gets it, the greatest power of the heart is humility and the problem very often with duality is that there is one too many ones."
