The department offers THREE scholarships for study abroad:
The Donna Bennington Study Abroad Scholarship
This scholarship is funded by Ms. Donna Bennington, alumna and former staff member of the Modern Languages Department. This scholarship will be awarded once a year to be used for the spring, summer or fall study abroad programs in the languages.
The student must have earned at least 6 credits at the 200 level in Spanish, French, Russian or German. Applicants must be declared as French or Spanish majors or Russian or German minors. Asian Studies minors must have completed 103 in Chinese, Korean or Japanese. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 QPA in the language studied. The award must be used for study abroad in the respective language. The applicant should submit a statement of purpose addressing academic and personal interest in the chosen program and describing how the study abroad experience would benefit him/her. Amount: $500
Dr. Melinda Ristvey Scholarship for Study Abroad
This scholarship is in honor of Dr. Melinda Ristvey, former professor of the Modern Languages Department. This scholarship will be awarded once a year to be used for spring, summer or fall study abroad programs in the languages.
Criteria: The student must have earned at least 6 credits at the 200 level in Spanish or French. Applicants must be declared as French or Spanish BSED majors. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 QPA in the language studied. The award must be used for study abroad in the respective language. The applicant should submit a statement of purpose addressing academic and personal interest in the chosen program and describing how the study abroad experience would benefit him/her. Amount: $500
Jack Hill Jr. Memorial Scholarship
Contributors are members of the Modern Languages and Cultures faculty and friends of the department. This scholarship will be awarded once a year to be used for the spring or fall.
Criteria: The student must have earned at least 6 credits at the 200 level in Spanish, French, Russian or German. Applicants must be declared as French or Spanish majors or Russian or German minors. Asian Studies minors must have completed 103 in Chinese, Korean or Japanese. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 QPA in the language studied. The award must be used for study abroad in the respective language. The applicant should submit a statement of purpose addressing financial need and describing how the study abroad experience would benefit him/her. Amount: $1,000
