Heather Johnson

HJohnsonHeather Johnson is a native of Muncie, Indiana. She was a student of Dr. Fred Ehnes for nine years before attending The Curtis Institute of Music at age seventeen. She has attended several music festivals, including Tanglewood, Interlochen, Eastern Music Festival, Ashlawn-Highland Opera Festival, and Banff. Her other teachers include Glenn Dodson, Froydis Wekre, David Wick, William Purvis, Janine Gaboury-Sly and Dennis Abelson.  

Her ensemble experiences include the Philadelphia Ballet, Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, Columbus Symphony (OH), Charleston Symphony (SC), Jupiter Symphony (NY), Syracuse Symphony (NY), and the Rodney Mack Philadelphia Big Brass (PA).  

She previously held a contract position with the Traverse Symphony (MI) as associate principal horn for six years. While in Michigan she appeared on television and radio frequently as a soloist and maintained a private teaching studio.

Heather is newly arrived to Western Pennsylvania and is freelancing in the Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Cleveland areas. Her local experiences include the Youngstown Symphony (OH), Wheeling Symphony (WV), Butler Symphony and Erie Philharmonic (PA). She lives in Slippery Rock with her husband, Mike Magee, a Juilliard-trained doublebassist and luthier. She continues to teach and freelance extensively.
