Wind Ensemble 2011

 Wind Ensemble

The SRU Symphonic Wind Ensemble, conducted by Stephen Hawk, is the music department's premiere chamber wind performing group. The ensemble performs new and challenging pieces for winds and percussion as well as much of the standard repertoire for wind band. This ensemble performs two on-campus concerts each semester and tours regularly. Members of the SRU Symphonic Wind Ensemble are chosen by audition.

 

Brass Ensemble 2011

Brass Ensemble

The SRU Brass Ensemble, directed by Brian Meixner, offers several concerts per academic year and tours regularly.  This ensemble performs in diverse instrumentations, ranging from a full brass band to various brass ensemble combinations.  Members of the SRU Brass Ensemble are chosen by audition.

Marching Pride

The SRU "Marching Pride", directed by James Berry, is one of the largest student organizations on campus with an average annual membership of 140. The Band is comprised of brass, woodwind and percussion musicians, auxiliary groups the Rocklettes and the Color Guard, three drum majors, and several managers. The Band performs at all home football games and several away games. The Marching Pride has an outstanding reputation for featured performances at numerous high school marching band festivals and contests. Several special appearances are scheduled each season. The Band rehearses three times a week for two hours as a group. The auxiliary groups rehearse individually as well as with the group. Membership in Marching Pride is open to any SRU student. There are no auditions for musicians however the Rocklettes and Color Guard hold a tryout each spring semester. All students wishing to participate must also attend a one week mandatory band camp prior to the start of the fall semester. The Marching Pride website is located at www.srumarchingpride.com

 

Symphony Orchestra

The SRU Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Warren Davidson, rehearses weekly for standing-room-only concert performances of great orchestral music. Members of the University community are welcome to audition for membership; academic credit is available for both majors and non-majors. Student soloists are featured every year. The SRU Symphony Orchestra's repertoire includes music from the Baroque era through Mozart, Beethoven, Bartok, and the 21st century.

Flute Choir

The SRU Flute Choir, directed by Stacey Steele, is an active university ensemble which performs many times per semester, both on campus and in the community. The group meets twice per week and receives university credit for ensemble participation. The flute choir has frequently traveled to attend the National Flute Association Convention; the ensemble was honored to be invited to perform for this association's conventions in Kansas City, KS, Columbus, OH, and Pittsburgh, PA. Other noteworthy peformances include numerous PMEA State Conferences, the 2001 Festival of Women Composers International Conference, and many area flute festivals.
