Music therapy is a healthcare profession that was established in the United States in 1950. The American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) defines music therapy as "the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program" (AMTA, n.d.).

High School Juinors and Seniors: Fast Track Admissions
Slippery Rock University's Fast Track Program allows students who have completed their sophomore year, are enrolled in their high school's college preparatory program and rank in the upper third of their class to enroll in college-level courses while still in high school, accepting the same rigors as all other ROCK degree-seeking students.
With admission to Fast Track, you will have the opportunity to take Music 127: Orientation to Music Therapy (a required course for the Music Therapy BM), which is a one-credit online course. This will help to lighten your course load during your first semester freshman year! (back to top)
