Majoring or Minoring in Philosophy

The SRU Philosophy Department currently offers three major tracks and two minors:

The Professional Philosophy Major is a 39-credit intensive concentration in philosophy. Primarily for students seeking a career in philosophy with the intention of continuing their studies in graduate school.

The Liberal Arts Philosophy Major is 30-credit major which encourages students to focus on philosophy tailored to another academic interest in 1) humanities and fine arts 2) social and behavioral sciences 3) natural sciences and mathematics.

The Career-Related Philosophy Major is a 24-credit second major which allows students to design a program of philosophy courses to complement the their first major and specific career objectives.

The Philosophy Minor requires 15 hours in philosophy, 9 of which must be at the 300 level.

The Ethics Minor requires 18 hours in philosophy, 9 of which must be at the 300 level.
