Application to Teacher Candidacy
Admittance to Upper Level Coursework 

     Process: During the semester in which the 48th credit is taken, students apply for admission to Teacher Candidacy(not over 90 credits):

·         A minimum 2.8 QPA

·         Clear Act 34 (NO record…NONE, criminal record check), obtained online immediately

·         Clear FBI Record Check (NO record…NONE) (Continuing enrollment in SRU Teacher Preparation Program is required for fingerprinting to remain valid).

·         Select Dept. of Education (PDE)

·         Clear Act 151 (child abuse)

·         Act 24 (arrest or conviction – NO record)

·         Passing scores on the Praxis I/PAPA

·          Praxis/PECT/PAPA Prep is provided by BC3

·          PAPA/PECT content, study guides & practice tests are available as well as full length tests.

·         Complete Department Teacher Candidacy Application  (See applications under SPOTLIGHT)

·         Negative TB screening

·         20 hours of early field experience in a diverse setting (talk to advisor)

·         Other requirements as determined by the department – check with advisor

·         Continue the ePortfolio (on TaskStream when required, see policy)

Application for Graduation and
Pennsylvania Teacher Certification

Process

QPA

·         A 3.0, or higher, cumulative grade-point average (GPA), OR 2.8 cumulative GPA, or higher, AND a qualifying passing subject area assessment (Praxis/PECT) score as determined by PDE and a qualifying passing Praxis II/PECT (content).

·         Pennsylvania has some of the highest score requirements in the country.

·         Test(s) can be taken at online at SRU (Indicate SRU as score recipient)

·         High QPA but unsuccessful test = NO certification.

Apply for Graduation

·         Review Rock Audit to ensure that all requirements are met.

o   Log in to MySru, Click on the Student Self-Service Tab,  Enter the Banner Self-Service channel, Click Student then Student Records and Apply to Graduate

Apply for Certification

·         Candidates who wish to apply for Pennsylvania certification must register the Pennsylvania Department of Education and apply through the Teacher Information Management System (TIMS) no earlier than the first day of the month in which they will graduate.
