Dr. Keith Dils, Dean of the College of Education

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the College of Education at Slippery Rock University.  This is a place known for providing  a supportive environment where you will have many opportunities to grow as an educator, showcase your achievements, and be recognized for your accomplishments.

You will be studying in a College of Education that has been recognized for excellence.  Our teacher education programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. Our counseling programs are accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Counseling and Related Education Programs.

Our faculty members are leaders in their field. Their scholarship and service is outstanding.  Their teaching is exceptional.  You can expect to receive individualized coaching and feedback from our faculty, as they know it is a key to guiding your learning.

You will be joining a vibrant student body who performs extremely well when working with students out in the schools.  And, our curriculum allows you to do so early in your teacher education programs.  Field experiences occur as early as the second year and include opportunities to teach in urban areas, such as Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, as well as rural and suburban areas.  There are also opportunities to student teach in international schools in Mexico City and Dublin, Ireland.

If you are a potential student or parent, I invite you to contact us so that we can share more about how we can help you reach your goals. If you are an alumni, we invite you to re-connect with us.

I wish you all the best as you move forward in your career pursuits.

"I am prepared to teach health and physical education at Mellon Middle school in the Mt.  Lebanon school district grades 6-8. I am also the Vice President of Physical Education for the Pennsylvania Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance and the co-chair for the Mt.Lebanon Employee Wellness Program. Slippery Rock University gave me the knowledge and skills to teach our youth to be healthy and active for life. I'm grateful for my Rock solid education."
