 Community Counseling - Addictions Counseling

Addiction is pervasive in society, therefore majors in Addiction Counseling have career opportunities with a variety of treatment populations including traditional drug and alcohol, food addiction-eating disorder, sexual addiction, love and relationship addiction and compulsive spending- gambling addiction.  Addiction counseling majors are employed in 28 day inpatient, outpatient, intensive outpatient, residential, marital-family,  employee assistance programs, general community mental health, adventure based-wilderness, corrections and private practice settings treating  children, adolescents, adults and older adults.  The Addiction Counseling Program at Slippery Rock University is highly experiential and includes a four semester Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) collaboration with the university counseling center and a pre-field clinical semester at a nationally recognized addiction treatment center located in metropolitan Pittsburgh.  Addiction Counseling majors possess a passion for treating those afflicted with addiction and advocate for prevention and innovative holistic treatment approaches.
