Biography: Dr. Shelly Klinek is a full-time temporary faculty in the PE Department at Slippery Rock University. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Salem College in West Virginia in Health and Physical Education with a specialization in Coaching. She earned her doctoral degree from Indiana University of PA in the area of Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Brain-Based Learning.
Dr. Klinek began her career at Harrison County Developmental Center in Cadiz, Ohio and was an Adapted Physical Education Teacher and Special Olympics Coach & Coordinator for 14 years. She taught two years at Edinboro University from 2000-02 supervising all Health & Physical Education student teachers. She taught Introduction into Adapted Physical Activity at Youngstown State University in the Health and Physical Education Exercise Science Department. Dr. Klinek completed her internship in the PE Department under Ms. Lynn Spadine Taylor.
Dr. Klinek has a passion for teaching students. She is currently on an NCATE Diversity Committee at EUP and is currently the Vice Chair of the Health Division for OAHPERD. She will be voted in as the Chair in Dec./2011 and serve for one term. Her professional accomplishments include presentations in Brain-Based Learning, Adapted PE and Health-Related Concepts.
A graduate of Norwin High School, in Irwin, Pa. Dr. Klinek is a member of the 2nd class Norwin Athletic Hall of Fame for softball and basketball. Dr. Klinek was also named AAAA Basketball Player of the Year, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Athlete of the Week, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Fabulous Five, and Pittsburgh Press Finest Five. Dr. Klinek is also a member in the Pa. Basketball Hall of Fame.
