 Meet Dr. Dallas Jackson

Biography:

Dr. Dallas Jackson is an Assistant Professor in the Physical and Health Education Department at Slippery Rock University.  He received his BS in Kinesiology from the University of North Texas and his MS in Kinesiology in adapted physical education from Texas Woman’s University.  He received a Doctor of Philosophy in adapted physical education/activity with an emphasis in pedagogy from Texas Woman’s University in 2010.  Dr. Jackson is a Certified Adapted Physical Educator (CAPE) and throughout his graduate school studies taught adapted physical education in the Denton, TX public schools for five years.  His research interests include evidence-based physical activity for adjudicated youth and also increasing physical activity participation of individuals with disabilities.  Dr. Jackson provides substantial service-learning opportunities for students, which he does through Kids In Action, an equestrian, sensory, gym and swim-based program designed for youth with autism and their siblings, the Allegheny Valley Schools sport skill-based program designed for adults with severe/profound intellectual and physical disabilities, and the Veterans sport and leisure-based physical activity program designed for aging veterans with and without disabilities.  He was the recipient of the Pennsylvania-based Talk Magazine’s Minority Achiever’s Award.  Dr. Jackson enjoys competing in race events up to the half marathon distance, and as a former Golden Gloves amateur boxing champion, remaining conditioned through sport-specific fitness activities.  He lives in Grove City, PA with his wife Marisa and two daughters – Phoenix and Sydney.
