How to apply for Student Employment

To secure a job on campus, the best tool is networking.  There is not a one-stop spot where all campus jobs are posted - this is because most offices like to meet students in person.  Therefore, students should also consider inquiring within campus offices.

  • Only about 4% of all campus jobs are filled by First-Semester Freshmen, so most work opportunities will present themselves in the second and third semester of college studies
  • Looking for a job at SRU is very much like the real world.  A very small number of campus jobs (less than 5%) are posted on SRU Career Connection
  • New students will not have access to the system until late in the summer prior to their first semester at SRU

To access your SRU Career Connection Account:

  • Go to www.sru.edu/careerconnection or click on the icon to the right
  • Click on the 'Students' icon
  • Log into the system using your SRU email address and password
  • Click 'Go'
  • In order to view or apply for jobs, you must update your account information

To locate, fill out, and upload the general Student Employment Application (on-campus employment form):

  • In the SRU Career Connection system, click on the 'Resources' Tab
  • Select 'Document Library'
  • From the list, select 'Student Employment Application'
  • Click 'Open' to download the file to your computer's Word program (be sure to Enable Editing in order to enter your information)
  • Once you've filled in the document, save it to your computer (remember to name your application professionally and appropriately for the position, for example: John Doe_Application_Art Dept)
  • Now, that the document is saved you can upload it to your SRU Career Connection account
  • Click on the 'Documents' Tab
  • Click on the 'Add New' button
  • Label your document (similar to your file name)
  • Choose the file you wish to upload
  • Select the 'Student Employment Application' bubble
  • Click 'Submit' which will put the completed application in your account

To submit your Student Employment Application to a position:

  • Once you have found an on-campus position which asks for the Student Employment Application, you can click on the 'Apply' button
  • A new pop-up screen will appear which will allow you to select the files asked for in the position such as Student Employment Application, Resume, Cover Letter etc.
  • If a document is required, you must have it uploaded to your account and select it in order to apply
  • Once you have selected your documents and added a personal note, if you wish, you can select the 'Submit' button to have your materials sent to the contact
  • Always be sure to read the Application instructions for each postings since some offices may want applications sent through the system or dropped off in their office location.

PLEASE NOTE: Unless you are applying for a position in the Office of Career Education & Development, please DO NOT return your application to the Office of Career Education & Development. We are not responsible for forwarding your application to other departments.

If you have any questions or need assistance in accessing the campus employment service, please contact the Office of Career Education & Development by calling 724-738-2028 or E-mail: career.education@sru.edu.
