Scan your resume as though it is the first time you have seen it. Is it visually pleasing and easy to read with an appropriate amount of white space?
- Is the format consistent and simple? Are your positions identifiable? Is it clear where one section stops and another begins?
- Did you highlight important points with bullets, underlining, bold, or italics in a consistent manner without overdoing it?
- Is the most important and relevant information listed first? Is the most recent information listed first?
- Did you include your name, address, city, state, zip code, telephone number, and the appropriate email address? [hotsruchick@hotmail.com is not an appropriate email address!]
- Does your objective match the position and employer or which you are applying?
- Do your phrases begin with action verbs and stay in the same tense?
- Did you and someone else check the spelling, grammar, and punctuation?
- Have you specifically detailed your accomplishments with specific and quantifiable information without exaggerating your abilities?
- Is your resume neatly printed on resume paper?
- Did you avoid using the words "I" and "me" in your resume?
- Did you include your name and page number on the second page? Does the information on your second page fill at least half of the page?
- Did you meet with a career counselor at Career Services to review your resume?
