 Staff Biographies 



John Rindy

John Rindy joined the Slippery Rock University Career Education & Development team in 2011 after spending his career in both higher education and industry. His business and science background includes work in laboratory and field sciences, as well as project management and business development in analytical and field environmental services.

In higher education, John has served as an adjunct professor of Environmental Science and Public Health at Youngstown State University, since 2002. He also served students as Dean of Educational Outreach at Thiel College, where he worked as program director or oversight for various co-curricular programs including internships, service learning, study abroad, career services, and affiliated pre-professional, veteran, and summer programs. John was also an adjunct member of the Environmental Science faculty at Thiel College.

He is now pleased to serve the students and staff at SRU as Director of Career Education & Development. John earned an Associate of Applied Business, a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies and a Master of Public Health, all from Youngstown State University. He is presently studying Educational Leadership and Management at Capella University, where he is pursuing an Ed.D. degree.


John Snyder

John Snyder, Associate Director of Career Education & Development, has been with Slippery Rock University since August 1988. While he works with all SRU students and alumni, his areas of emphasis are education, exercise science, staff training, and career development. He is the campus administrator for several standardized testing programs including Praxis, the Miller Analogies Test, the GRE Subject Tests, the Certified Health Education Specialist exam, and the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist exam. He also works in the press box for Rock football and is the PA announcer for Rock men's and women's basketball.

John has served as president of the Pennsylvania Association for Colleges and Employers (PennACE) and the Middle Atlantic Association for Employment in Education (MAEE) as well as a board member for the American Association for Employment in Education (AAEE) and a presenter at national, regional, and state professional conferences. Currently, he is the treasurer for the Pittsburgh Education Recruitment Consortium (PERC).

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, John served as a school counselor at Mentor High School, a career counselor at Baldwin-Wallace College, and an English teacher at Lexington and Mansfield Madison School Districts (all in Ohio) before coming to Slippery Rock University. After earning his Bachelor of Arts in English from Muskingum College, John was awarded a Master of Education in Counseling from Cleveland State University.


Renee Coyne

Renee Coyne, Assistant Director of Career Education & Development, joined the Slippery Rock Community in February 2009. Through her position, she is able to assist students in researching internship opportunities, discovering career opportunities in the Non-profit sector, exploring major and career options for undecided students, tailoring their resumes and cover letters to emphasize their skills. She works closely with the web-based technology used in the office and can answer questions about College Central Network, Linked In, searching and applying for jobs via the internet, and how to handle social networking sites while transitioning from college to a professional position.  She is currently transitioning into the role of employer relations and is working to develop stronger relationships with non-profits and businesses in order to link them with SRU students.

Before coming to SRU, Renee specialized in creating and implementing educational programs for Non-profits, most recently, the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Biology and a minor in English from Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania. She firmly believes in strengthening your community through service and on days off can be found volunteering in the Grove City Community.

Cathy Fuhs
Cathy Fuhs, Job Location and Development (JLD) Coordinator, joined Slippery Rock University’s office of Career Education and Development in November 2011.  She is a proud SRU Alum having earned her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish here. 
Working as the JLD Coordinator, she seeks to make available job opportunities for the students, both on and off campus. Cathy is also instrumental in the organization of the Summer Job and Internship Fair held each spring semester. Approximately 75 companies attend the fair and offer such things as part-time employment and internships.
She also takes an active role in compiling and presenting information for the Annual Report, which anonymously indicates where in the world SRU graduates are and the status of their employment.  In her time off, Cathy can be found spending time with her family, reading or volunteering with the high school marching band.


Sierra Williams

Sierra Williams is a student in the Community Counseling program at Slippery Rock University. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2010 at Edinboro University. Sierra recalls spending time as an Intern at a local hospital’s psychiatric unit near her home of Kane, PA as a highlight in her past experiences. She enjoys spending her free time with friends and watching her favorite tv show, Gilmore Girls. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to help students through her work at career services. Upon completion of her Master’s degree, she looks forward to being able to facilitate growth in others by working with those who are affected by addiction and/or mental illness.


Thomas Crissman

Thomas Crissman is a graduate student in Community Counseling program at Slippery Rock University. He attended Clarion University earning a Bachelors of Science in Psychology. In his spare time, Thomas enjoys riding ATVs, watching movies, and Scuba Diving. Thomas is excited to develop his skills while having the opportunity to help students discover and strive for their career goals!

Carol Fry

Carol graduated from Wright State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 1990.  Carol has extensive experience mentoring college students and after 19 years of working for a non-profit group she returned to school to study Community counseling with an emphasis on college student development.  Carol is thankful for the opportunity to work with college students through the Career Education and Development office and is looking forward to meeting with students to help them explore who they are through their major and career decisions. When not working , in class, or doing homework,  you will find Carol hanging out with her 4 kids and husband in Grove City, reading a good novel or volunteering for her church.

Aubrey Rader  

Aubrey Seal is a student in the Student Affairs in Higher Education program at Slippery Rock University. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education in 2012 from Slippery Rock University. In her spare time, Aubrey enjoys running, the outdoors, and spending time with her husband and two dogs. Aubrey is excited to strengthen her career counseling skills while working with Slippery Rock students. Upon completion of her Master's degree, she looks forward to working on a College Campus assisting students in some way.
