Alternative Loan Borrowers must complete a Self-Certification Form. Your lender will provide you with the Self-Certification Form and the means as to how this form must be completed (electronically or by paper). The following will give you the necessary information you will need to accurately complete the Self-Certification form and corresponds with the actual paper form.

Please Note: Summer costs are based on the number of credits and summer terms you are enrolled for. Your summer alternative loan may be certified for less than the amount stated above.
- Estimated Financial Assistance (the Financial Aid you have been awarded)
You will find your Financial Aid Award on MySRU under Financial Award Letter. Total the amount of Financial Aid you will be receiving either for the full year, for the semester, or summer depending on what your alternative loan term dates are. Enter the total amount of financial aid in Section 3 Line B.
- Subtract B from A and enter that number on Line C (Please note that the amount on Line C generally reflects the maximum you can borrow through an alternative loan. However, you are encouraged to borrow as little as possible since these loans have variable interest rates and can severely increase your monthly loan obligation after graduation).
- Once this form is completed, you must sign it and return it to your lender in the manner which they determined. PLEASE NOTE: YOUR LOAN WILL NOT BE PROCESSED BY THE LENDER UNTIL THE SELF-CERTIFICATION FORM HAS BEEN RECEIVED BY YOUR LENDER.
