 Freshman Scholarships in Biology

Please note: all scholarship amounts are subject to change.

In order to apply for any of the scholarships on this page, you must complete the Freshman ScholarshipApplication.  

Students should send the following to the Biology Department:

1. Three letters of recommendation

2. A single-spaced, half-page essay describing the most significant life experience OR an essay describing one's long range goals professionally and personally.

Biology-Thomas John

Criteria: Top 20% of high school class or with a combined SAT score of 1,000 or a composite ACT score of 23 or better. Three letters of recommendation with application required.  The scholarship is renewable with 3.0 QPA at SRU.
Amount: up to $1,250

Biology- James Steel

Criteria: Top 20% of high school class or with a combined SAT score of 1,000 or a composite ACT score of 23 or better. Three letters of recommendation with application required.  The scholarship is renewable with 3.0 QPA at SRU.
Amount: up to $2,000

Thomas Gaither

Criteria: SAT score of at least 1000 and in top 25% of high school class. Preference given to student interested in becoming a biologist, biology teacher, or entering the medical field. This scholarship is non renewable.
Amount: up to $1,000

Wayne Miller

Criteria:Top 20% of high school class or with a combined SAT score of 1,000 or a composite ACT score of 23 or better. Three letters of recommendation with application required. The scholarship is renewable with 3.0 QPA at SRU.

Watson Family Scholarship for a graduate from a high school in Butler, Lawrence or Allegheny County

Criteria: Ranked in top quarter of high school class. Must demonstrate leadership potential as demonstrated by activities and community service. This scholarship is non renewable.
Amount: up to $500

Watson Family Scholarship for Slippery Rock Area High School Graduate

Criteria: Ranked in top quarter of high school class. Must demonstrate leadership potential as demonstrated by activities and community service. This scholarship is non renewable.
