In order to apply for any of the scholarships on this page, you must complete the Freshman Scholarship Application.

Academic Affairs

Criteria:

Demonstrate superior academic achievement, and good moral character.  Priority is given to Mercer County residents.  Financial need required.  This scholarship is renewable.

Robert N. Aebersold

Criteria:

1200 SAT or equivalent ACT and top 10% of high school class.  This scholarship is renewable.

African-American Alumni Scholarship

Criteria:

First preference is given to an African American applicant. Must have a minimum QPA of 2.5. Must have financial need.

Dorotha Elder Anderson Endowed Scholarship

Criteria:

Must have attended Renolds or Linesville High School. Not renewable.

Amount:

up to $1000

Harry Brownfield Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Must have academic merit. First preference given to an applicant from Fayette County. If no one applies from Fayette County then applicants from Greene or Washington County will be looked at.

Patrick Cappatt Family Scholarship

Criteria:

Applicant must be a full-time student. Student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Student also has to have financial need. First preference to students from New Castle High School - Lawrence County PA, second preference to students from a Lawrence County, PA secondary school, then students from a secondary school in Butler County, PA.

Amount:

Renewable; Minimum of $500

Carrollton High School

Criteria:

Graduate of Carrollton High School.  This scholarship is renewable.

Criteria:

Grady W. and Helen L. Magee Cooper

Criteria:

Must reside in Butler, Lawrence or Mercer County, PA and achieve academic excellence.  This scholarship is renewable.

Robert H. Coulson

Criteria:

Graduate of Valley High School or Burrell High School, PA and perform community services and other extra-curricular activities. Applicant must provide an essay describing career goals and aspirations. This scholarship is non renewable.

Reno & Margaret Cruz Scholarship

Criteria:

Financial need required. Must be a western  PA resident. Minimum high school GPA of 3.0. This scholarship is renewable.

Eberly Family

Criteria:

Resident of Fayette County, PA and demonstrate superior academic achievement and good moral character.  Financial need is required and the scholarship is renewable.  Student must take 24 credits per year.

Michael J. Estocin ’54 Memorial 

Criteria:

Incoming Freshmen with 3.5 QPA or higher, in top 20% of graduating class.  Financial Need is required and this scholarship is non renewable.

First National Bank (FNB Scholarship)

Criteria:

Top 5% of graduating class, with a 3.5 QPA.  Must reside in school district serviced by FNB.  See Financial Aid Website for listing of FNB branches.  Financial need is required and this scholarship is renewable.

Criteria:

Criteria:

James P. Gillen Memorial

Criteria:

Must reside in Allegheny or Butler County, PA and have prior community service experience.   Financial need is required for this scholarship and the scholarship is non renewable.

Criteria:

Must exhibit academic excellence, and demonstrate financial need.  The scholarship is renewable.

Criteria:

Graduate of Grove City, Mercer or Slippery Rock Area High School and have academic perseverance.  Must demonstrate financial need.  This scholarship is not renewable.

Criteria:

Student must be enrolled at SRU and must demonstrate financial need. This scholarship is not renewable.

James S. Hawkins Family Student Opportunity Endowment

Criteria:

First-year student matriculating to Slippery Rock University from Oil City or Venango Catholic high schools in Pennsylvania. Undergraduate progressing toward a degree. Full time student. Must demonstrate financial need.  

Amount:

Minimum $300

Howard L. and Margaret Rehm Headland

Criteria:

Graduate of Woodland Hills High School, PA.  Demonstrate a commitment to career development and community service. This scholarship is renewable.

Criteria:

Must reside in Homestead, Lincoln Place, Munhall, West Mifflin or Whitaker, PA.  Demonstrate dedication and perseverance in academic work.  Financial Need is required.  This is scholarship is non renewable.

Criteria:

Demonstrate Academic Excellence.  Graduate of Central Catholic H.S. in Dubois, Brockway, Jefferson Tech High Schools.  Financial Need is required.  This scholarship is non renewable.

Criteria:

Must be from Dauphin County. First preference will go to an African American applicant. Second preference goes to a minority who is involved in community service.

Nate and Irene Maruca

Criteria:

First preference given to graduates of Avonworth or Quaker Valley high schools.  Studen must have 3.2 high school QPA.  Must demonstrate Financial need and this scholarship is renewable.  Student must have 2.75 QPA to renew for sophomore year, and must have a 3.0 QPA to renew for junior and senior year.

Pennsylvania Governor’s School 

Criteria:

Graduated from the Governor’s School of Excellence.  Copy of Governor’s School Certificate should be provided.  3.5 high school QPA and have an SAT score of 1150 or an ACT score of 25 and be in the top 25% of high school class.  Submit a 500 word essay describing their experience at the PGSE and how they plan to apply what they learned to their college or professional career.  This scholarship is non renewable.

Dr. and Mrs. Arthur William Phillips

Criteria:

SAT score of 1,000 or ACT score of 22 and a minimum cumulative GPA of a B average for 13 or more of the recommended college preparatory units required by all applicants.  Must reside in Venango, Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Crawford, Erie, Forest, Lawrence, Mercer or Warren County in PA.  This scholarship is renewable.

Quality Aggregates at Laurel High School

Criteria:

Graduate of Laurel High School.  Applicant chosen will be the student with the highest QPA and who has applied to admission to SRU by February 15.  This scholarship is non renewable.

Criteria:

Graduate of Sharon High School and first year student at SRU.  Minimum 3.0 high school QPA.  Financial Need required.  This scholarship is renewable.

Criteria:

Criteria:

Must be from Blair County. Must have a minimum of a 2.5 QPA. Must show a commitment to community service.

John O. Stoner

Criteria:

First preference goes to a Somerset County resident.  Student must exhibit academic excellence, demonstrate Financial Need.  This scholarship is renewable.  Student must have 2.75 QPA for renewal.  Students must take 24 credits per year - graduate students are also eligible.

Evelyn Taggert and John Taggert Scholarship

Criteria:

Student must be a western PA resident, have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0, demonstrate financial need, and demonstrate commitment to community service. A minimum 3.0 GPA required for renewal.

Preference will be given to descendents of Ethel and Jack Taggert (regardless of residence) provided documentation is presented and confirmed.

Criteria:

Dr. Nick P. Trombetta Scholarship

Criteria:

Must be an incoming freshman. Be a graduate of Midland School District. This scholarship is awarded to the student with the highest high school GPA.

Winner Foundation

Criteria:

Recommendation by school administrator based on good character, determination and leadership qualities.  Priority consideration: 1. Dependent children of Winner employees.  Please include a documentation letter from Human Resources.  2. Graduates of Reynolds School District. 3.  Graduates of Sharon City School District.  4.  Graduate of any Mercer County School District. The scholarship is renewable.

Wolves Club of Coraopolis

Criteria:

Graduate of Moon Area, Cornell or Montour High Schools in PA.  Student must demonstrate good performance.  Student must demonstrate Financial Need and the scholarship is renewable.

Criteria:

Slippery Rock Area High School graduate. Entering Freshman. Ranks in the top quarter of high school class. Must demonstrate leadership potential as demonstrated by activities and community service. First preference given to students majoring in biology, elementary or secondary education or undeclared major.

The Watson Family Scholarship for Graduates of a Butler, Lawrence or Allegheny County High School

Criteria:

Graduate of a Butler, Lawrence or Allegheny County High School. Entering Freshman. Ranks in the top quarter of high school class. First preference given to students majoring in biology, elementary or secondary education or undeclared major.
