(APSCUF) SRU Assoc. of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculty Scholarship

Criteria:

Undergraduate student with 36 or more semester hours at SRU and a minimum 3.0 GPA. Must be involved in extra-curricular activities both off and on campus. Applicants must write a 500-word essay describing his/her academic and career goals as well as his/her personal view of the U.S. labor movement. Applicant must provide three references from SRU faculty and staff. Preference given to students with demonstrated financial need and students with an immediate family member who is a member of a recognized labor union. Dependents of SRU faculty/coaches are not eligible. For more information please visit this website.

Grace Hildebrand Allen Scholarship

Criteria:

Must be in sophmore, junior, or senior class. Applicant must have a 2.75 QPA. This scholarship is renewable.

Amount:

Up to $1250

There is no application for this scholarship. An individual is automatically selected.

Asian Studies Scholarship

Criteria:

The student must have at least 6 credits toward the minor, must have declared an Asian Studies minor, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA in this minor. The student should write a short statement about his/her interest in Asian Studies.

Connell Ashmore Baker Scholarship

Criteria:

This scholarship is available to students who are studying abroad for a minimum of one semester (spring only).  Applicant must have a minimum 2.5 GPA who demonstrates financial need.

The Brough Cup Award

Criteria:

Must be a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity showing the most improvement in GPA from one semester to the next. Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity will submit their semester grades to the Coordinator of Greek Life at SRU who will in turn select the award recipient and notify SRU Foundation and SRU Financial Aid.

Diana Caine-Helwig '77 Scholarship

Criteria:

Applicant must be a full-time student with financial need. First preference goes to a non-traditional student who is a single parent raising a child or children while attending college.

The Lucille Calabretta AFSCME Scholarship

Criteria:

United States Citizen, PA resident.  Student must be at sophomore, Junior or Senior standing, 2.5 or better GPA.  SRU Full-time student.  

Amount:

Up to $750

Meiping Cheng Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:

Must be at least a sophomore II with 3.5 GPA, demonstrate financial need. U.S. citizenship required. Students will be contacted by e-mail to apply based on the criteria.

Amount:

Awards vary up to $3,000/year.

Frank Chua International Study Scholarship

Criteria:

Must be an undergraduate student with a minimum 2.5 GPA seeking to study abroad in culture that is not similar to their primary ethnic culture. An example of this would be a Euro-American wanting to study in Asia or an Asian-American wanting to study in Africa. Global Engagement handles the selection. Available for fall, spring and summer terms.

Clerical Education Scholarship

Criteria:

Must be a dependent of a Slippery Rock University Clerical staff member(Clerk Typist, Clerk Steno, or Administrative Assistant) in the AFSCME Union. Be enrolled  full time(12 credits). Must have completed at least 30 credits at Slippery Rock University by the end of the spring 2013 semester. Must have a QPA of 2.75. Must have one or more full academic year(s) remaining to complete degree requirements at SRU.

Captain Kathlene Contres USN Scholarship

Criteria:

Applicant must be participating in the ROTC program. Recipient must comply with all ROTC guidelines. First preference to a student of Latino decent. Second preference to any minority student.

Shiron Cooper Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:

Applicants must be from a Caribbean country and preference will be given to business majors, followed by music majors or others in the College of Humanities and Fine and Performing Arts students. A 3.0 cumulative GPA and essay about the importance of family are also required.

Amount:

up to $750; one award per academic year.

Eisaman Alumni Scholarship

Criteria: Applicant must be a full-time sophmore at SRU. Student must be earning a minimum of 3.25 GPA. Student must have demonstrated involvement in community service and/or university activities. Applicant will need two letters of recommendation- at least one from a SRU employee, a completed application form, a one-page typed statement- with a minimum of 100 words- from the applicant describing his/her character, personal interests and future plans must be included. Statement must include scholarship's name.

Jean Powell Furrie Scholarship

Criteria: Applicant must be enrolled as a Physical Education-Teaching major. Female preferred. Student must have demonstrated involvement in community service and/or university activities. Applicant will need two letters of recommendation- at least one from a SRU employee, a completed application form, a one-page typed statement- with a minimum of 100 words- from the applicant describing his/her character, personal interests and future plans must be included. Statement must include scholarship's name.

Fran Hensler Rock Catholic Scholarship

Criteria:

To qualify, the student must be an active member of the Rock Catholic Club, demonstrate financial need as determined by the University Financial Aid Office, and earned a minimum 2.5 GPA at the time of application. First preference for the award will be given to students who graduated from Seton-La Salle High School. Second preference will be given to students who lived in the Slippery Rock Area School District at the time of application.Third preference will be given to students pursuing a degree in Information Systems or Information Technology offered through the SRU Computer Science Department. The scholarship recipient will be selected by the St. Peter Parish Director of Catholic Campus Ministry, in conjunction with the Slippery Rock University Center for Student Involvement and Leadership and the University Financial Aid Office.

Criteria:

Full-time international students having earned a minimum of 60 credits at SRU prior to applying, financial need, progressively improved academic standing.

Honors Program Advisory Committee Scholarship

Criteria:

Minimum 3.75 QPA, junior or senior standing, and in good standing with the Honors Program

Criteria:

Rose and Dale Kaufman Scholarship

Criteria:

Degree-seeking undergraduate students at least 25 years of age. Must have completed at least 24 credit hours, possess an overall 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need. The recipient will be required to complete 21 semester hours of credit over a 12-month period .

Stan Kendziorski International Student Scholarship

Criteria:

First time undergraduate international student, completion of two semesters in residence at SRU prior to applying, academic achievement, and contribution to SRU campus life.

Amount:

up to $1000; one award per academic year

Carl and Norma Laughner Scholarship

Criteria: Applicant must be a relative to a current SRU Alumni Association member. Eligibility is not limited to a specific field or area of study. Applicant must have earned a minimum of 12 credits by the conclusion of the fall semester. Applicants must have a minimal overall 3.0 QPA. Student must have demonstrated involvement in community service and/or university activities. Applicant will need two letters of recommendation- at least one from a SRU employee, a completed application form, a one-page typed statement- with a minimum of 100 words- from the applicant describing his/her character, personal interests and future plans must be included. Statement must include scholarship's name.
Amount: up to $1,375

LGBTQI Scholarship

Criteria:

The LGBTQI scholarship will assist any lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning or intersex student in purchasing their books at the SGA Bookstore.  The LGBTQI student must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and demonstrate financial need.  Please submit a one-page essay describing involvement in the LGBTQI Community and the situation of financial need.  The scholarship is posted to the Office of Student Accounts billing statement.

Amount:

$150 per semester/one academic year for a total of $300.

Christopher Loudon Hero Scholarship

Criteria:

Must be participating full-time in the SRU ROTC program.  Must be a senior who participates in Ranger Challenge, have a mininum 3.0 GPA, and have financial need.  Must demonstrate discipline, integrity and character.  An essay is required as part of the application process.

Dr. Albert E. Maltby Award

Criteria: Applicant must be a sophmore, junior, or senior. Student must have good academic standing. Recipients are to work or have worked at Bailey Library as a student employee.

Maree McKay/Esther Smiley Academic Alumni Scholarship

Criteria: Applicant must have earned a minimum of 60 semester hours by the conclusion of the fall semester and have Junior status (60-89 completed credits). Student must be earning a minimum cumulative QPA of 3.25. Student must have demonstrated involvement in community service and/or university activities. Applicant will need two letters of recommendation- at least one from a SRU employee, a completed application form, a one-page typed statement- with a minimum of 100 words- from the applicant describing his/her character, personal interests and future plans must be included. Statement must include scholarship's name.
Amount: Seven annual scholarships up to $1,135 per academic year

Robert McCollum Study Abroad Scholarship

Criteria:

SRU students approved for a fall semester study abroad program are eligible to apply. A minimum 2.5 GPA is required. Financial need will be considered and an application form, available on the Global Engagement website, must also be completed.

Gertrude Lindsay McDowell Family Scholarship

Criteria:

Two students will be selected by the office of Financial Aid based on financial need. The student may be selected only one time for this scholarship. This scholarship will go to one female and one male Orientation Ambassador. No Application required.

Criteria:

Applicant must be a member of Sigma Tau Gamma. Applicant must have a minimum of a 2.75 QPA. Applicant must demonstrate commitment to the community and service projects.

Katherine M. Moore Health Education Award

Criteria:

Undergraduate student of at least sophomore status who demonstrates strong interest and dedication to health promotion/education. Preference given to member of HOPE Peer Education Program.

Peter J. Oesterling Family Scholarship Award

Criteria: Student must be in pre-law advisement program, preferably Political Science Major. First preference is a student who graduated from high school in Butler County. Essay required: "If I were a Lawyer I would...". Student must demonstrate financial need. This scholarship is for 2nd year students and up. Applicant needs a letter of recommendation from a faculty member. Student must complete an application form.

Past President's Scholarship

Criteria: Applicant must be enrolled as a full-time sophmore. Applicant shall demonstrate a minimum overall QPA of 3.25 or higher. Preference will be given to those applicants whose parents are a current member of the Slippery Rock Alumni Association. Applicant must submit a written essay of why the applicant is deserving of this scholarship. Applicant must provide a written description of extracurricular activities that benefit SRU. Student must have demonstrated involvement in community service and/or university activities. Edna C. Rohwedder Community Service Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:

Available to sophomores and juniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA and a commitment to service. Preference given to students with extensive Girl Scouting, Boy Scouting or AmeriCorps experience.

Mike Saraka Green and White Society Book Award

Criteria:

Student must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Student must be a Freshman, Sophmore, or Junior. Must be a Green and White Society Ambassador. Applicant will need one letter of reccommendation and a 250 word essay about "How the Green and White Society will impact your future".

Sheryl E. Smith '74 Scholarship

Criteria:

Must be a full-time student and have financial need. First preference goes to a female who is a FLSP (First Year Leader Scholar Program)graduate for the 2014-15 academic year. This scholarship is renewable if the student maintains good academic standing and serves in a leadership capacity of an SRU sanctioned club or organization.

Criteria:

SRU Senior Class Gift Scholarship

Criteria:

Applicant must be a full-time student at SRU, currently of Junior standing, attended SRU since freshman standing, have an overall QPA of at least 3.25 and be involved within their program. Applicant must also submit a 250 word essay

Marjorie Stephenson Scholarship

Criteria:

Applicants must be undergraduates who have demonstrated strong academic performance. They must have earned a minimum of 30 semester hours at SRU by the conclusion of the spring term during which they apply. Female students of color with majors in the arts, humanities, social sciences and education will receive highest consideration; others, however, may also apply. Financial need will also be a consideration. An essay entitled How My College Education Will Help Me Pursue My Career Goals  is required, along with two letters of recommendation from SRU faculty members. At least one of the recommendations must be from a professor with whom the student has taken a class. The essay should be one to two pages in length and should include campus and community activities and an indicationof financial need.

Amount:

Up to $1,000. Several scholarships are granted each year.

J. Tyler Stufflebeam Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:

First preference is given to active members of the Green & White Society. Second preference is given to Physical Education majors. Candidates must have successfully completed at least 30 credit hours of academic work at Slippery Rock University at the time of application. Must have earned a minimum of a 2.75 GPA at the time of application. Must outline volunteer & community service involvement. Submit a one-page essay demonstrating his/her knowledge of Slippery Rock University "traditions" and how he/she has incorporated them into his/her experience as a student.
