 Meet Jamar Scales

SPOTLIGHT

Greetings everyone! I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to learn a bit more about me.  I was born in Los Angeles California but grew up near Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from Olmsted Falls High School.

After High School in Ohio I attended Slippery Rock University (Class of 2008) and Graduated with a degree in Social Work. I was also very active outside of Academics. I was a part of the Men’s Basketball team where I was blessed in my career to join the 1,000 point Club. I was crowned as SRU’s 2007 Homecoming King as well. I also completed a lot community service outreach with the most prestigious organization of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Alpha Zeta Alpha Chapter. After my tenure at Slippery Rock I decided to return to Cleveland and earn a Master’s of Science degree in Social Administration from Case Western Reserve University (Class of 2011).

Before I decided to come back to Slippery Rock I was a mental health therapist for teen males at a residential treatment facility in Robinson, PA called the Bradley Center. I have always had a passion for working with youth. There have been a variety of experiences throughout my life that have led me in the path of the social services originally. These experiences have taught me the importance of self development as well as the importance of a support system. This is the most motivating factor for me as I motivate young people to use higher education as a ladder towards a brighter future.
