The Collection Management Department is responsible for monitoring and allocating the library materials budget in coordination with the Resources Acquisitions Librarian, Heather Getsay. Assessment of the library’s collection is another responsibility of the department.
Jessica Marshall, the Collection Management Librarian, requests each year that the Department Chairs select a liaison to the library. After the Director of Library Services allocates the library materials budget, it is divided according to an allocation formula. Each department is informed of its allocation. The librarians and liaisons are responsible for expending the departmental allocations for all material formats.
To help the departments expend their allocations, the library has an electronic approval slips program with Blackwell. E-mails of new titles are received biweekly by the liaisons and librarians. Liaisons recommend titles for purchase and librarians send requests to the Acquisitions Department electronically using Blackwell’s Collection Manager.
The librarians receive other requests from their liaisons. The librarians send enough requests to the Acquisitions Department to expend the departments’ allocations. The budget is expended by fiscally sound methods so that the library can add as many materials as possible.
Annual reports of books and audiovisuals are produced by the Acquisitions Technician, and sent to the librarians who distribute them to the liaisons. The Collection Management Librarian, Jessica Marshall, also creates statistical reports for departments which are preparing for either an accreditation or program review. Other assessments of the collection are completed by the Collection Management Librarian, Jessica Marshall, on an as needed basis.
