ROCKvoices: Slippery Rock University Oral History Project

Robert DiSpirito

Bob DiSpirito came to Slippery Rock as the head football coach in 1968. After what he calls a rocky start, DiSpirito became one of the great Division II football coaches, winning 3 state championships and over 100 games.

DiSpirito also made contributions to Slippery Rock academics, teaching in the Physical Education Department and developing the Recreation Department. He was an advisor to student government, helped develop the Gail Rose facility into a successful fundraising venture and was instrumental in the creation of the Aebersold Student Recreation Center. One of his proudest accomplishments was the development and enlargement of the Newman Center
