Minor in Marine Science

Offered by: Biology Department

There's a whole world to explore in marine environments, and you will uncover the vast underwater universe when you pursue a minor in Marine Science at SRU. This minor is a natural complement to a major in mathematics or natural sciences.

Why Choose Marine Science?

With the minor in Marine Science, you can pursue your interest in the marine environment, while earning an undergraduate degree in one of the natural sciences or mathematics at SRU. Summer courses are offered at the Chincoteague Bay Field Station on Virginia's Atlantic shore. Because some courses offered at the field station may be applied to the liberal studies requirement in the natural sciences, you can take advantage of a first-hand experience in the marine environment regardless of your major.

What Will You Learn?

In addition to field study at Chincoteague Bay, your coursework will include general biology, chemistry, oceanography, marine biology, chemical oceanography and marine geology.

Careers In Marine Science

As a minor in Marine Science, you will be poised to enter the workforce as a marine biologist, geological oceanographer, or marine policy specialist.
