It is the mission of Slippery Rock University Emergency Management to provide policies, education and training to enhance the protection of lives and property. Emergency Management will coordinate and integrate all SRU resources to mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies that affect Slippery Rock University
Slippery Rock University is very aware of current concerns in the nation regarding the safety of citizens. Therefore, we continually monitor the news and media and advisories from various organizations regarding possible risks to our campus community.
The SRU Emergency Preparedness Plan provides guidelines for the most serious scenarios and provides for housing and caring for students in the event of a wide range of potential emergencies affecting the well-being of the university and the community. SRU is prepared to house students in a secure location, if necessary, for several days, or longer.
SRU has its own communications systems and backup generators. We can communicate in emergencies with students and other members of the university community. If necessary, our campus is small enough to allow professional staff to walk to each residence hall and provide emergency information and directions to students. During emergencies, SRU will update its web site to keep students, parents and others informed.
Emergency operations are intended to enhance the protection of lives and property through effective use of University and community resources. Whenever an emergency affecting the campus reaches proportions THAT CANNOT BE HANDLED BY ROUTINE MEASURES, the President, or his/her designee may declare a state of emergency and engage these guidelines. Since an emergency may be sudden and without warning, emergency operations are designed to be flexible in order to accommodate contingencies of various types and magnitudes.
The Assistant Vice President of Student Services is the administrator on call for all university emergencies. In the event of a university emergency the SRU Critical Incident Command Center (CICC) may be activated. The CICC is located on the third level of University Police Headquarters where senior staff may meet and direct emergency operations. The University Police Headquarters is located at 145 Kiester Road, and provides 24-hour assistance and protection. This service is provided seven days a week on a year-round basis. Phones and other needed equipment are present at this location. Click here for additional information on Slippery Rock University's emergency operations.
