Budget suggestions: November 6, 2013


Consider closing our campus health center and work out an agreement with the Butler Health System facility that is on the back of our campus. If someone requires healthcare after the BHS facility is closed for the day and weekend hours when closed we should have a system in place to transport students to Grove City Medical Center. Any serious health issues are usually referred to Grove City Medical Center or Butler Hospital anyway. Between the personnel costs and the space use I would think this would be a considerable savings. If we didn't have a facility on the back of our campus it wouldn't make sense, but we do and it doesn’t make sense to not use it.


Change starting salary structure campus wide. Negotiate with all unions to reduce starting salaries at every level.

Last Friday, the Slippery Rock University Council of Trustees officially approved the fiscal year 2013-14 budget.

As I shared with you earlier this year in my State of the University address, we started the fiscal year with a $5.2 million structural budget deficit.  Through the efforts of many people, we were able to present the trustees with a balanced budget.
