In the Field: Art & Geology of the Badlands

Please join us at the Opening Reception of In the Field: Art & Geology of the Badlands, with light refreshments, Wednesday November 8th, 5 PM – 7:30 PM

In an attempt to better understand the landscape of Badlands National Park, the Badlands Working Group investigated landforms in the region, taking soil samples from sand dunes for radiocarbon dating in order to gain evidence of a Medieval Climate Anomaly sometime between 1,000-1,300 AD that would have impacted slope incision rates and land formation. The group is immersed in the landscape, camping for the entire two-week research expedition that was in large part funded by a SRU Faculty/Student Research Grant with additional funding from the Art Department; the College of Liberal Arts; the Department of Geology, Geography & the Environment; the College of Health Environment and Science; and the Geological Society of America. Exhibition dates November 6 through November 21.
