Inaugural Event: SRU Orchestra Concert

The Slippery Rock University Orchestra performs masterpieces that have a common thread in the person of the famous Romantic composer Johannes Brahms. Brahms was a devoted student of the great composers who preceded him, including the Classical master Joseph Haydn. The orchestra will play the last of Haydn’s 104 symphonies; Brahms quoted the rollicking final movement of this symphony in his Serenade, Op. 11. Brahms loved the waltzes of Johann Strauss, Jr., and expressed regret that he himself was not the composer of the Strauss piece we will perform: the Blue Danube Waltzes. Of Brahms’s own works we offer the Academic Festival Overture – highly appropriate for our university setting! Admission $5/Students $3.
