Justseeds Artists' Cooperative: Printmaking Wkshp.

Kaleidoscope Arts Festival welcomes Justseeds Artists' Cooperative, a decentralized group of 29 artists creating prints and graphics in support of movements for social and environmental justice. Members are based all over the United States, as well as Canada and Mexico, with a distribution headquarters in Pittsburgh. Justseeds member Mary Tremonte is an artist, educator, and DJ based in Pittsburgh. Mary is currently an artist in residence at Literacy Pittsburgh through the Pittsburgh Office of Public Art’s Residency in the Public Realm, an initiative to build connections for refugees and immigrants in Pittsburgh through collaborative creative projects. In her talk, she will share some of Justseeds’ many projects that utilize graphics and screenprinting as part of movements for social justice, including art builds and thematic print portfolios. In her screenprinting workshop, participants will create screenprints with both their own hand-cut graphics, and a variety of images from Justseeds’ collection of activist graphics. Participants will come away with many prints on paper as well as a basic understanding of both the screenprinting process, and its applications for transmitting messages to represent a more collective and equitable future.
