Phantom of the Opera classic movie poster

Blackwood Theater Organ Society presents the 1925 silent movie classic "The Phantom of the Opera."

Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, 2pm movie

Harrisville, PA

BTOS was organized for the purpose of preserving the theater pipe organ and silent movies as forms of art.  Famous organists, known throughout the world, come to play the magnificent Blackwood 3 manual, 20 rank Theater Pipe Organ.  At the press of a button, the floor which conceals the organ console retracts and the glittering gold leaf and black lacquer theater organ rises out of the depths as if by magic.

As we enter the Halloween season, be prepared to be horrified as aspiring young opera singer Christine Daae discovers that she has a mysterious admirer intent on helping her become a lead performer.  This enigmatic masked presence is Erik, also known as the Phantom.  Mary Philbin, Lon Chaney and Norman Kerry star in this silent horror classic which will be accompanied by the inimitable Dave Wickerham.  Dave is so discerning and has such a command of the organ that you will become part of every gripping scene - and you will never again view the Phantom the same.

The Pittsburgh Opera will conclude their season with Donizetti's L'elisir d'Amore - The Elixir of Love, a comedy about a traveling medicine show huckster who claims to possess a love potion.

People have pinned their romantic hopes on magic love potions for thousands of years. The story concerns a "little nobody" named Nemorino who is smitten with the beautiful and wealthy Adina, who appears to be completely out of his league. His prospects are further diminished when the handsome and dashing Sergeant Belcore arrives. But when Doctor Dulcamara rolls into town and sells Nemorino a bottle of his dubious Elixir of Love, things get very interesting. Pre-opera talk begins at 6:00pm.
