SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - In those situations when a first impression is built on appearance, the challenge of self-promotion can be daunting. That's especially true these days when there are so many professional situations to consider, from job interviews, business casual days to even "corporate gym" events.

Slippery Rock University will help students gain a better understanding of appropriate attire for the business world during a "Dress for Success Fashion Show" at 7 p.m., Feb. 17, in the Smith Student Center Ballroom.

Student models will present outfits featuring professional clothing from retailers at the Grove City Premium Outlets. Students attending will be eligible to win $650 in gift cards from the retailers, said LisaMarie Weinzetl, SRU manager of compliance for academic and student affairs.

Male and female student will walk the runway in business attire that is appropriate for a number of situations. The clothes and presentation will illustrate attire for a job interview, corporate meeting, causal-Fridays, holiday parties and workouts.

"Students will learn how to present themselves in the best light possible," she said. "We want the interviewer to remember the student because of their experiences and what they can offer the organization or company instead of what they were wearing. It is part of developing and preparing SRU students for life after college."

Weinzetl started the "Dress for Success" program a few years ago. The Office of Career Education and Development, the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership, the Grove City Premium Outlets, AVI Foodsystems, Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Prudential Financial are sponsoring the evening.

Students must pre-register at www.sru.edu/careerconnection.
