SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock Borough will kickoff its 175th Anniversary celebration at 7 p.m., April 12, at the Borough Council Chamber, 306 East Water Street, when state officials present the borough council with a commemorative plaque.

According to Regina Greenwald, president of the borough council, representatives from Butler County, the Slippery Rock School District, various business and community leaders and Slippery Rock University will all be on hand.

Cake and punch will be served immediately following the presentation.

"We'll be celebrating throughout the remainder of the year," said Greenwald. "At various times we'll be posting 175 historic facts about the borough on our website (http://www.slipperyrockboroughpa.gov/), while each of our usual events - Slippery Rock In Bloom, the Chili Cook Off, VillageFest - will all be adding some extra flair this year in celebration of the anniversary."

Greenwald added that the borough is also accepting design concepts for an official borough seal. The seal will be used on official documents and may also be used on flags, websites, pins, business cards, letterhead, awards and other formal places.

"The seal should be indicative of the history and culture of Slippery Rock," said Greenwald. "It should be a design appropriate for multiple uses, from very large to very small."

Deadline for entries is April 30. The winning design will receive $175.
