SGA Bookstore schedules April 11 ‘Graduation Celebration’

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Spring. When a young man's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love. It's also when the thoughts of seniors at Slippery Rock University turn to commencement.
But before students walk across the stage to pick up their diplomas, they'll need to walk into the SGA Bookstore's "Graduation Celebration" from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., April 11 in the Smith Student Center Ballroom.
The event provides those students who have applied to graduate at any of the May 12-13 undergraduate or graduate ceremonies, the chance to purchase regalia, a class ring, diploma frame and other University memorabilia.
Applicants who applied by the March 1 deadline are guaranteed up to four guest tickets for commencement and may pick them up at the fair. Tickets will also be distributed April 17-21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in 201 Old Main. There will be a special Saturday distribution of tickets April 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Smith Student Center. A valid student ID is required to pick up tickets.
The "Graduation Celebration" will give students several opportunities to make connections. The SRU Alumni Association will distribute zipper pulls to candidates, collect future job information and distribute medallions to magna cum laude graduates. Graduating seniors will be able to join the Alumni Association for a special rate of $25 and includes the choice of a free t-shirt, coffee mug or travel mug.
Staff from SRU's Office of Career Education and Development will be distributing information about the official first destination survey that graduates will receive which measures what graduates are doing after college, as well as the "Senior Career 411" program in May. That event will cover resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn, networking, interviewing skills and the best and worst ways to search for a job.
