SRU Sax, woodwind, string musicians to present concert

The Slippery Rock University Saxophone, String and Woodwind ensembles will perform at 7:30 p.m., April 20, in Swope Music Hall.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University Saxophone Ensemble, Woodwind Chamber Ensembles and String Chamber Ensemble will present a concert at 7:30 p.m., April 20, in Swope Music Hall. The presentation, featuring student musicians, is part of SRU's 15th annual Kaleidoscope Arts Festival.

Students will perform a variety of chamber music pieces from the classical idiom.

Jason Kush, SRU assistant professor of music, will direct the Saxophone Ensemble. Students will perform works ranging from orchestra transcriptions to pieces specifically written for saxophone.

Candice Kiser, SRU instructor of music, will direct the Woodwind Chamber Ensembles. The ensembles feature woodwinds, brass, strings, piano, voice and percussion.

Paige Riggs, SRU instructor of music, will direct the String Chamber Ensemble. The ensemble includes a small group of students selected by Riggs to study and perform chamber music written for strings.

Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for general admission.

Kaleidoscope, SRU's 15th annual arts festival, runs from April 14-28. This year the festival will feature 28 dance, theatre, music, literary and visual arts events. Children's Day will be offered from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., April 23, at the Robert A. Macoskey Center for Sustainable Systems Education and Research. Programs will include earth-friendly activities.
