XTO reps with Slippery Rock University gift recipients

XTO Energy representatives Steve Forde and Scott Kummer, '92, present Ed Bucha, executive director, SRU Foundation, Inc.; Jerry Chmielewski, interim dean of the College of Health, Environment and Science; Athula Herat, associate professor of physics and engineering; and Samantha Swift, director of development, SRU Foundation, Inc., with a $17,250 matching gift check May 30 from the ExxonMobil Foundation. XTO Energy is a subsidiary of ExxonMobil with headquarters in Butler County. The monies were made possible through ExxonMobil's Educational Matching Gift Program. The program matches philanthropic gifts from ExxonMobil employees and retirees on a 3:1 ratio to qualified colleges and universities. A gift to the SRU Foundation, Inc. from retired ExxonMobil employee Michele Phillips prompted the match. Both gifts have been directed to the John P. Phillips Memorial Scholarship in honor of Michele's late husband John, who received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees at SRU and who also worked for ExxonMobil. The John P. Phillips Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year to an upperclassman biology major with an interest in environmental studies.
