LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - A total of 181 Slippery Rock University student-athletes were named as Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference scholar-athletes for maintaining above a 3.25 grade point average during the 2015-16 academic year.

The conference as a whole set a record with a total of 2,819 student-athletes from the 18 member institutions earning the honor, which represents 40 percent of all student-athletes in the conference. The total topped the previous mark of 2,691 that was established last year and marks the eighth straight year that more than 30 percent of the conference's total student-athlete population has earned the honor.

SRU ranked sixth overall with 42.9 percent (181) of its total student-athlete population (421) earning the honor. A total of 122 females and 59 males represented The Rock on the list.

"We're very proud of our student-athletes for representing SRU so well in the classroom, in addition to their efforts in competition," said Paul Lueken, director of athletics. "We have always taken great pride in our student-athletes performing above average academically and this shows that that trend is continuing to grow."

Among the SRU student-athletes honored, 13 boast a perfect 4.0 GPA. Nine of The Rock's programs maintained or improved its number of PSAC Scholar-Athletes from a year ago. Thirteen teams maintained an average team-GPA of at least 3.0.
