SRU named a top college for federal work-study financial aid

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University has been named a "Top College for Federal Work-Study Financial Aid" by the Student Loan Report, an online resource that "aims to cover all student loan news around the world."

To determine rankings, SLR used licensed data from Peterson's Financial Aid dataset, an online provider for personalized higher education resources and guidance, to collect relevant statistics pertaining to the 2015-2016 academic year. A minimum of 200 federal work-study jobs was required for a college or university to be admitted to the ranking list.

According to SLR, the total overall compensation was found by multiplying the weighted average federal work-study aid by the total number of jobs.

Of the 400 public schools listed in the final report, SRU ranked 123 with an average of 554 federal work-study jobs offered on campus for an average compensation of $1,572 per student worker.

The federal work-study program is a government-funded program that compensates

students for part-time work at a university, college or other educational institution. To qualify for federal work-study, student must demonstrate financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
