SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - A pair of Slippery Rock University education programs have received national recognition from Teacher.org.

SRU's special education program has been ranked 10th among 400 qualifying programs while the University's early childhood education program came in 19th from a group of more than 425 programs.

Teacher.org used data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System as a raw starting point. The IPEDS data was then matched up to the accreditation data provided by the U.S. Department of Education Office of Post-secondary Education.

The rankings were based on the combined score - on a scale of zero to 100 - of four weighted areas, including:

  • Percentage of program graduates out of all graduates per year;
  • Graduation rate;
  • Loan default rate; and
  • Tuition affordability

The above criteria were then grouped and weighted to produce a final overall score. If two colleges had the same overall score, the college with more online education options was ranked first.
