SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University's "Experiment" Poland/USA fiber art collaboration exhibition is on display in at the Dixon University Center in Harrisburg through Oct. 9. The display includes student and faculty artwork using textiles, paper, wool, and more.

"Experiment" will gain additional exposure Sept. 13 during the 27th annual "Harrisburg Gallery Walk" sponsored by the Art Association of Harrisburg. This year, according to sponsors, the walk features 27 great venues of art. "Experiment" in Harrisburg opened two weeks ago.

"Experiment" is part of SRU's ongoing collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdnask, Poland. Students and faculty from both institutions created pieces for the display.

Barbara Westman, SRU associate professor of art and a Poland native, received a thank you letter from Peter Garland, vice chancellor of Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education, which owns the Dixon University Center.

"It was a letter of congratulations for organizing this international collaboration between two schools and a word of appreciation for the exhibition in the Dixon Center that allows all visitors to see it," Westman said.

The project engages students in intercultural art conversation and learning. "Experiment" has been exhibited in Poland and at SRU and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

"We believe it is beneficial to all students to become aware of art created by their peers abroad," Westman, who teaches fibers, said. "The impact of culture, tradition and education can be seen through art."
