Hurricane Irma

Sept. 11, 2017

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Student Nonprofit Alliance, an on-campus organization of students preparing for careers in the nonprofit sector, and the Slippery Rock Student Government Association are partnering to coordinate a campus-wide hurricane relief campaign Sept. 12-23 to aid those effected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

"Over the past two weeks we have watched in disbelief as the hurricanes have devastated southeastern Texas and now Florida," said Alice Del Vecchio, assistant professor of interdisciplinary programs and nonprofit leadership program coordinator. "Some of us have families and friends who were impacted by these storms and many of us have visited these communities and know their beauty first hand. All of us have been humbled by the havoc these storms have brought to people's daily lives and most of us have wondered what we can do to help. No donation is too small."

Individuals who donate will be asked to identify which organization - Catholic Charities, Red Cross or Salvation Army - that they want their dollars to support. Funds will then be divided between that organizations relief efforts in both the Houston-area and Florida-based organizations.

The SNA will provide post-campaign information including total amount raised, amounts donated to each organization in each state, and the number of individuals and student clubs and organizations that participated in the campaign. Follow the SNA on Twitter (@srusna) for daily updates throughout the campaign and for the post-campaign results.
