SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University has been named one of the nation's top 10 most affordable public universities for out-of-state students by AffordableColleges.com.

SRU, the lone institution from Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education to make the list, ranked sixth in a review of more than 600 institutions across the country.

AffordableColleges.com weighs a variety of criteria, including: tuition; number of students receiving financial aid; net price; loan default rate; enrollment rate; full-time retention rate; graduation rate; student-faculty ratio; admissions rate; number of programs and percentage of students taking at least one online course.

When calculating the rankings, AffordableColleges.com uses the most recent data available from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, which offers reliable and accurate insight into affordability, academic pedigree and online/distance learning programs.

"SRU stands out as a high-quality yet economical option for students," said Lisa Wright, public relations coordinator for AffordableColleges.com.
