SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - For the second consecutive year, Slippery Rock University's dance program has been ranked among the top 20 College and University dance programs in the nation by SRU came in at No. 16 nationally and at No. 2 in Pennsylvania.

A total of 322 public and private schools offering dance programs were surveyed. The rankings are based on data collected by U.S. Department of Education in 2014-2015. Rankings, said, are based on 61 academic, financial and organizational factors including faculty profiles, student retention rates and alumni job prospects. Scores are normalized to reflect differences between schools including student body enrollment, past ranking history and the college's current trend.

"This is very exciting news for the University. Obviously, the great work our dance faculty are accomplishing, the opportunities our program provides and the talents of our student dancers have all contributed to this ranking," said Cheryl Norton, SRU president.

New York University was ranked No. 1, with Brigham Young University, the University of California Irvine, the University of Utah and the University of North Carolina rounding out the top five. No other Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education schools were included.

"This is very exciting for the department especially as we prepare to begin recruitment efforts for the new BFA degree in dance," said Ursula Payne, SRU professor of dance.
