SRU music faculty offer free recital Oct. 1

Colleen Gray, SRU associate professor of music, will perform three songs during the “Music Department Faculty Concert Recital” at 12:30 p.m., Oct. 1, at Swope Recital Hall. Other music faculty will also perform.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University music department faculty will perform a collage of songs on piano, flute, clarinet and with their voices when they present the "Faculty Collaborative Recital" at 12:30 p.m., Oct. 1, in SRU's Swope Recital Hall.

The free presentation will offer music from a variety of styles from different time periods, with art songs "Souhait," "Amertume" and "Villanelle" by Cecile Chaminade sung by Colleen Gray, SRU associate professor of music.

The recital will include:

• "Trio Serenade" by Peter Schickele performed on flute by Cassandra Eisenreich and Kathleen Melago, instructor and assistant professor of music, with piano accompaniment by Beverly Antis, staff accompanist.

• "Appel Interstellaire" by Olivier Messiaen performed on horn by Heather Johnson, instructor of music.

• "Totally Different Rag" and "The Thriller Rag" by May Frances Aufderheide performed on piano by Nanette Kaplan Solomon, professor emeritus of music.

• "Three Romances" by Daniel Dorff performed by Eisenreich on flute and Candice Kiser, instructor of music, on clarinet.

• "Etude in A Flat Major, Op. 25, No. 1" by Frederic Chopin performed on piano by Glenn Utsch, assistant professor of music.
