SRU names new Martha Gault Art Gallery director

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Theresa Antonellis, an artist and educator with eight years of experience in art galleries and museums, is the new director of Slippery Rock University's Martha Gault Art Gallery.
Antonellis, an instructor of art, also teaches "Overview of Western Art."
Prior to joining SRU, Antonellis directed the Student Union Art Gallery at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. In 2014-15, she attended Vermont Studio Center artists' residency.
She has taught art at the University of Massachusetts/Amherst and served as the Andrew W. Mellon Curatorial Assistant at Mount Holyoke College Art Museum. Antonellis researched collections in the possession of multiple liberals arts departments, helping the museum to win grants for the protection and preservation of the collections.
Antonellis earned her master of fine arts from the University of Massachusetts in. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College, with dual bachelor's degrees in Art Studio and Art History.
Antonellis said her art embraces the drawing and painting practice of breath-generated marks inspired by body-centered meditation. Her drawings and paintings have been displayed at the University of Massachusetts and other university galleries. Her paper sculptures were exhibited at The Joshibi University of Art and Design in Tokyo.
The Martha Gault Art Gallery features exhibitions of artwork by students, faculty and visiting artists. The next exhibition, "appetite: process and priority of consumption" featuring sculptures by artists Jeremy Entwistle and Christian Benefiel, is Oct. 12-29. The opening reception is 5-7 p.m., Oct. 15.
