‘Fearless’ LGBT photo exhibit runs through Oct. 30

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - "The Fearless Project," an exhibition of more than 200 photographs of LGBT student athletes by American photographer Jeff Sheng, opens today in Slippery Rock University's Smith Student Center Commuter Lounge.


"The Fearless Project," offered as part of SRU's LGBT History Month celebration, will be moved to the Art Building from Oct. 24-30.

Sheng will discuss his photography when he presents a free lecture at 7 p.m., in the Smith Student Center Ballroom.

Since 2003, Sheng has photographed "out" athletes, and he has spoken about and exhibited "The Fearless Project at more than 70 different sites, including colleges, ESPN, Nike and the NCAA.

The project was recently published into a photography book, "Fearless: Portraits of LGBT Student Athletes." Retired NBA basketball player Jason Collins wrote an afterword.

Sheng's photographs on this topic have been featured in the New York Times, Time magazine, Newsweek, The Advocate and The New Yorker.
