SRU students organize Oct. 19-23 body image program

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University psychology students will lead a "Fat-Talk Free Week" Oct. 19-23, with programs drawing attention to body perception issues for men and women.
Students, calling themselves the Reflections Body Image Program, aim to challenge the thin ideal and the media's portrayal of body image, said Jennifer Sanftner McGraw, professor of psychology.
A documentary, "The Mask You Live In," will be shown at 5 p.m. in 105 Vincent Science Center. The film discusses the societal standards of masculinity that some men feel they must live up to.

Oct. 19: Make-Up Free Monday
Oct. 20: Fat-Talk Free Zone
Oct. 21: "The Mask You Live In," 5 p.m. in 105 Vincent Science Hall.
Oct. 22: Information Table in Smith Student Center Lobby, noon-3 p.m.
Oct. 23: Post a "selfie" promoting body positivity
