SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - While the weather outside may be frightful given the time of year, the mood inside Slippery Rock University's Morrow Fieldhouse is sure to be delightful when the December graduates cross the commencement stage.

But before students walk across the stage to pick up their diplomas, they'll need to walk into the SGA Bookstore's "Graduation Celebration" from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Nov. 7 in the Smith Student Center Ballroom.

The event provides students who have applied to graduate at the Dec. 16 ceremony the chance to purchase regalia, a class ring, diploma frame and other University memorabilia.

Applicants who applied by the Oct. 1 deadline are guaranteed up to four guest tickets for commencement and may pick them up at the fair. Each guest, including children, must have a ticket. Tickets will also be distributed Nov. 8-17 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in 302 Old Main. There will be a special Saturday distribution of tickets Nov. 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first floor of the Smith Student Center. A valid student ID is required to pick up tickets.

Those that missed the Oct. 1 online deadline to apply for graduation must apply in person at Academic Records located in Old Main, Suite 107. Students applying after the Oct. 1 deadline are not guaranteed to receive guest tickets, or that their name will appear in the commencement program.

The "Graduation Celebration" will give students several opportunities to make connections. The SRU Alumni Association will distribute zipper pulls to candidates and distribute medallions to summa cum laude graduates. Graduating seniors will be able to join the Alumni Association for a special rate of $25 and will receive a free gift.

Staff from SRU's Office of Career Education and Development will be distributing information about the official first destination survey that graduates will receive that measures what graduates are doing after college, as well as the "Senior Career 411" program in December. That event will cover resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn, networking, interviewing skills and the best and worst ways to search for a job.

Questions related to caps, gowns, announcements and rings should be directed to the SGA Bookstore at: 724.738.2104.
