SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Glenn Utsch, Slippery Rock University assistant professor of music, will offer a concert of Spanish music at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 12, in SRU's Swope Music Hall Auditorium.

"An Evening of Spanish Piano Music" will feature compositions by Spanish composers Galles, Soler, Turina, Mompou, Granados, along with Spanish jazz by Manel Camp.

Professional musicians Patrick Crossley and Robert Rawsthorne will accompany Utsch on double bass and drums.

"Spanish music is full of passion," Utsch said. "This style of music has been influenced by Spanish dances, Gypsy vocals, music for Spanish guitar and the flamenco."

Utsch, who joined SRU in 1996 and teaches classical and jazz piano, recently became more interested in Spanish-flavored piano music.

"I was encouraged to do so by a friend and Spanish piano music expert teaching in the Princeton, New Jersey area," Utsch said. "A concert of only Spanish music - outside of Spain of course - is rare. Spanish piano music has been dominated by the music of Germany, Austria, Italy, England and France. My goal is to share this wonderful music not often played."
