SGA Bookstore schedules Nov. 12 Graduation Fair

SRU grad fair

Nov. 4, 2015

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - It's one of the signature experiences of a college student's senior year: commencement.

Nearly 550 Slippery Rock University undergraduate and graduate students who have applied to graduate at Slippery Rock University's 11 a.m., Dec. 12 ceremony will get their chance to purchase regalia, a class ring and diploma frame during the SGA Bookstore Graduation Fair from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Nov. 12, in the Smith Student Center Ballroom.

Coffee mugs, T-shirts and other University memorabilia will also be available.

There are 548 graduation applicants - 450 undergraduates and 98 graduate students.

Applicants who applied by the Oct. 1 deadline are guaranteed up to four guest tickets for commencement and may pick them up at the fair. Tickets will also be distributed Nov. 18 through Nov. 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in 201 Old Main. There will be a special Saturday distribution of tickets Nov. 21 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Smith Student Center. The final day to pick up tickets is Nov. 24. A valid student ID is required to pick up tickets.

The fair, sponsored by the bookstore, will give students several opportunities to make connections. The SRU alumni association will distribute zipper pulls to candidates, collect future job information and distribute medallions to magna cum laude graduates.

Graduating seniors will be able to join the alumni association for a special rate of $20.

Staff from SRU'S Office of Career Education and Development will distribute information about the "Senior Career 411" program in December. The evening event covers resumes, cover letters, Linkedin, networking, interviewing skills and the best and worst way to look for a job, said John Rindy, director.

Questions related to caps, gowns, announcements and rings should be directed to the SGA Bookstore at 724.738.2014.
