SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University has been named as the No. 20 best value occupational safety degree program in the United States by collegevaluesonline.com.
Using data from The National Center for Education Statistics College Navigator and Payscale.com, collegevaluesonline.com awarded points based on four categories: low tuition, high return on investment, percentage of students receiving financial aid and the number of minors, concentrations, or areas of emphasis offered by the school, to determine their rating.
SRU currently offers a bachelor of science in safety management, which prepares safety professionals to design, implement and maintain programs that improve safety and health in a variety of enterprises. As part of the degree program, students learn the regulations and standards of workplace conditions that impact employee well-being, as well as health and physical hazards, hazardous materials and waste, workplace design adversities, workplace security, fleet safety, fire abatement, emergency preparedness, workplace training, incident investigation, cost containment and safety management integration. Students are required to complete a 12-credit internship upon degree completion.
"We are pleased to have our safety degree recognized by collegevaluesonline.com as a best value nationally," said Cheryl Norton, SRU president. "Our focus continues to be on providing an exceptional, affordable education. As this rating demonstrates, we are delivering a great education at a great value to our students."
